3 Warning Signs There May Be a Leak in Your Roof

It’s common knowledge that ceiling stains are a sign there’s a leak in your roof. However, the other warning signs aren’t always as noticeable as ceiling stains.

Elevated Roofing LLC, your trusted storm damage restoration services contractor, lists the warning signs that are trickier to spot below:

  1. Mold

Moisture damage and mold usually go hand in hand. That’s because excess moisture creates a damp environment that’s the perfect breeding ground for mold. Common warning signs of mold include dark-colored spots on your ceiling or walls, a musty smell in your home and allergy flare-ups (mold spores can aggravate respiratory conditions). If you notice any of the aforementioned signs, it’s highly recommended that you schedule a roof inspection as soon as possible. That’s because the mold (which eats away at wood) can quickly affect other parts of your home if mold-damaged components aren’t removed immediately.

  1. Damp Walls

Damp walls are a sign water from a leak has managed to make its way to your interior.

  1. Shingle Bruises

It’s easy to identify cracked shingles from ground level, but shingle bruises (small, dark spots that form when the granules embedded in asphalt shingles are dislodged or hit by hailstones) are trickier to spot. As a general rule, you should have one of your local residential roofing contractors inspect your exterior after an extreme weather event.

What if there are no signs of leaks? It would still be a good idea to schedule a roof inspection. That’s because, as mentioned earlier, the warning signs aren’t always noticeable. Not to mention it takes time for certain signs of storm damage to emerge. And by the time they do emerge, it’s already too late to mitigate damage. That’s why it’s best to schedule a roof inspection as soon as the weather clears up.
